The Allianz GAA National Hurling League for 2010 commences this weekend.

Saturday, February 20
Thurles: Tipperary v Kilkenny, 7.30pm


The 2010 Allianz GAA National Hurling League starts with a bang on Saturday night, as the top two teams in the country meet in a repeat of last year’s All-Ireland final under the lights in Thurles.

The sides met three times last year, with Kilkenny winning out on each occasion.

Kilmallock: Limerick v Galway, 2.30pm

Galway are on a hiding to nothing when they travel to Kilmallock on Sunday for their league opener against Justin McCarthy’s shadow Limerick side. The Tribesmen will be expected to rack up a cricket score against a Limerick team that few other than those with an intimate knowledge of the club scene in the county will be familiar with.

Cork start a league campaign untroubled by off-field problems for the first time in what seems like an age this Sunday. Offaly, who disappointed in last year’s Championship, are the visitors to Páirc Úi Chaoimh for the opening game of Denis Walsh’s first full campaign in charge of the Rebels after the St Catherine’s clubman stepped into the breach three games into the league last year.

Dublin travel to Waterford on Sunday to get their National League campaign up and running with genuine hopes of challenging the big guns for Division One honours. The Dubs have fitted snugly into hurling’s top tier following their renaissance in recent years, and manager Anthony Daly will expect to come away from Walsh Park with two league points on the board.
