As we approach next weekend's match that will decide the last semi-final spot for this year's SFC, I take another look at which teams are among the favorites.
According to boylesports.com the odds are as follows:
Kerry 11/8
Tyrone 6/4
Cork 4/1
Mayo 12/1
Meath 35/1
Last year's runners-up Kerry have regained top spot among the favorites to win this year's championship. While 2008 winners Tyrone have dropped to second spot.
Interestingly enough, the Top 3 have reverted back to what they were at the beginning of the championship (though the odds have slightly changed).
Tyrone will be playing Cork in the first SFC semi-final on August 23rd; while Kerry must await winners of the Mayo and Meath quarter-final clash, to see who they will be playing in the other Semi-Final.
Are we going to have the same pairing (Kerry-Tyrone) as last year for the Final? Or are the likes of Cork, Mayo or Meath going to upset that pairing and possibly win the Sam Maguire Cup?
Well, as they say only time will tell! It all happens on the day (quoting another cliche).
On another small note, since 2004 Kerry, Tyrone, Mayo and Cork are the only teams to have reached the All-Ireland SFC Final:
2004 Kerry 1-20 Mayo 2-9
2005 Tyrone 1-16 Kerry 2-10
2006 Kerry 4-15 Mayo 3-5
2007 Kerry 3-13 Cork 1-9
2008 Tyrone 1-15 Kerry 0-14
