Kerry play Sligo in the third round of the Senior Football Championship on (Sat) July 18th in Tralee @ 5:00PM.
Mike McCarthy has been included in the Kerry team at centre-back. McCarthy makes his first start for the Kingdom since he retired at the end of the 2006 season. Aidan O’Mahony is back in the starting line-up after missing the win over Longford.
Paul Galvin returns from suspension to start in his familiar wing-forward role. Sean O’Sullivan moves into the inside forward line with Tommy Walsh starting at full-forward in place of the injured Kieran Donaghy. Tadhg Kennelly has failed to recover in time from a broken finger.
Kerry Team:
D Murphy; M O Sé, T Griffin, T O’Sullivan; T O Sé, M McCarthy, A O’Mahony; D O'Sé, S Scanlon; P Galvin, D O’Sullivan, D Walsh; C Cooper, T Walsh, S O’Sullivan
Sligo manager Kevin Walsh, has named an unchanged team from the side that enjoyed a one-point win over Tipperary in the last round.
There is one positional change, in which Adrian Marren switches from wing forward to the full forward line with Stephen Coen going in the opposition direction.
Sligo Team:
P Greene; P McGovern, N McGuire, N Ewing; M McNamara, R Donovan, J Davey; E Mullen, T Taylor; M Breheny, A Costello, A Marren; D Kelly, E O'Hara, S Coen.
Both teams meet for only the second time in championship history and for the first time since 1975 when Kerry beat Sligo by 3-13 to 0-5 in the All-Ireland semi-final.
Walsh will be hoping that his team can reproduce the form they showed in the Connacht semi-final defeat to Galway. And Kerry will be hoping not to put on the dismal display they showed in their four point win over Longford.
I don't think Kerry are good enough to win the All-Ireland SFC this year, but they are certainly good enough to get the win over Sligo.
