Derry play Monaghan in the All-Ireland Senior Championship Qualifiers Round 2 on Saturday in Clones. It will be the second time that these two teams have met in the championship this year. Derry were winners on the first day, in a rough match that was marred with incidents and bookings.
Monaghan Manager Seamus McEnaney has announced an unchanged side for this encounter. Tommy Freeman is still suspended following the imposition of an 8 weeks penalty for an alleged incident in the game against Derry at Celtic Park.
Monaghan Team:
P McBennett; D Mone, V Corey, D McArdle; D Freeman, G McQuaid, D Hughes; E Lennon, D Clerkin; S Gollogly, P Finlay, C McManus; M Downey, R Ronaghan, R Woods.
Derry boss Damien Cassidy will be without the services of corner-back Kevin McGuckin. He failed to have his four-week ban overturned at the Central Hearings Committee meeting on Thursday night. Last month, he was shown a straight red card after he tangled with Tyrone's Sean Cavanagh in the Ulster SFC semi-final.
Last night's decision has resulted in Cassidy delaying his team selection for tomorrow's game.
Derry Team: TBC
The Farneymen will need to produce a better performance than the one that saw them scrape past Armagh after extra-time last weekend. On the other hand, the Oakleafers must also try to put up a great performance with a team that is not at full strength. However, I believe Derry will repeat their success over Monaghan in another tight clash.
