Ciaran Bonner and Neil Gallagher were axed from the county panel by manager John Joe Doherty on June 30th for breaches of discipline. They have not been recalled to the panel since.
Doherty has said in the past that he would love to have them back, but it would send out the wrong signals to others in the squad. Donegal footballer Eamon McGee has now admitted that the continuing exclusion of Gallagher and Bonner is having a negative effect on the rest of the squad.
This act of discipline could prove very costly for Doherty and his charges ahead of their SFC qualifier match with Galway on Saturday.
Galway boss Liam Sammon axed Nicky Joyce from his squad back in June for disciplinary reasons, but things were sorted out and Joyce was back in the panel 3 weeks later. There doesn't seem to be any negative fallout from the Joyce return. In fact, Joyce is proving to be a vital part of the Tribesmen panel, as he score 8 points in their loss to Mayo in last Sunday's Connacht SFC Final.
Doherty, I think you should talk to Sammon about how to handle disciplinary action!
